California's Senate Bill 684, effective July 2024, mandates a 60-day ministerial approval for small-lot subdivisions of up to 10 units on eligible urban infill sites, bypassing environmental review and public hearings. Small lots must be at least 600 sq ft with an average unit size under 1,750 sq ft. The law excludes ADUs and JADUs differently in multifamily and single-family zones. Further expansions under related bills will allow more single-family land redevelopment.
