The City of Barrie is eligible for up to $129.2 million through Ontario’s Development Charge Reduction Program by cutting residential development charges by 50% from March 2026 to March 2029. Combined with HST relief, this could reduce new home costs by up to $192,223. Funding will support wastewater treatment upgrades, potentially unlocking 23,364 new homes and boosting regional housing supply and economic growth.
