Single-family home construction declined in most areas due to high material costs, interest rates, and economic uncertainty, with the largest drop in large metro core counties. However, small metro outlying counties saw a slight increase. Multifamily construction grew in six of seven regions, especially in large metro core and suburban counties, driven by strong rental demand. The market is shifting toward smaller, less dense areas for single-family homes and toward large metro cores for multifamily units.
